Me, Briefly:
My name is Jonathan Jones, I graduated from the University of Southampton in 2010 with an upper second class Masters degree in Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence. Since then I have worked in all sorts of companies: a green-tech startup, a defence contractor and an automated hedge fund.
My wife Maria and I were childhood sweethearts. I proposed a couple of years ago and we were married in Summer 2011.
I shot smallbore rifles for the Southampton University team for five years, and won a bronze medal at BUSA 2010. I enjoy puzzles and games of strategy. I suck at go.
I am a prolific reader, but mainly read science fiction, classic politics and philosophy, and military history. I bookcross, and occasionally write myself.
I blogged for the Freedom Association, taking a historical or philosophical (and lightheartedly cynical) attitude to current affairs.
I listen to an eclectic variety of music.
Academic Interests
I love AI and robotics, especially autonomous vehicles; be they mars rovers, predator drones, or BEAM bugs. I'm a big fan of interdisciplinary research: take a civil engineer, a chemist, and a computer scientist and lock them in a room with a crate of mountain dew and half a dozen pizzas.
I aim to become bilingual. I know a fair bit of Esperanto and slightly more French, although you wouldn't want to try having a conversation with me.
The Website
Fairly straightforward. Directory-based database, combination of php and html files. Menu is automagically generated.
I've just moved from HTML transitional to full, bona fide CSS/XHTML, so excuse the boring layout.
